Great Ocean Rd and Otway Ranges

316.8 km

This is a great trek that takes in many of the best features of the coastal and Otways environments - rock formations off the coast, tree ferns of the sub-tropical rainforest, surf and swimming beaches, beautiful waterfalls, rail history, bush camping and attractive little towns.

The drive can easily be done in two long summer days as it is all-wheel drive on gravel roads, but if you want to relax over lunch in one of the many cafes or spend time on the walks or explore as you go, allow a couple more days if you can. The walks are all up and down steep stairs so if you are not fit you might want to allow extra time or select some of them. If you have plenty of time we would also include Mait's Rest walk, the coastal formations west of Port Campbell and the beaches east of Apollo Bay.

Watch for snakes in summer when walking, even on the path to the Twelve Apostles.

The weather in Victoria is changeable at any time of year. It can be cold, raining or windy. The best time ids in summer and it is ideal if you can choose a few calm sunny days . We were lucky enough to be able to do that!

Camping in Victoria's national parks is now expensive and you must book online before you camp.
